The Design Concept Of The Driftwood Mittens: A Classic Cable-Crochet Mitts Design
When I designed The Grove Mittens knitting pattern, I immediately had loads of people sending me e-mails requesting for me to design a crochet version of this classic mittens pattern. And I didn't mind one little bit! I instantly began design plans to adapt The Grove Mittens to a crochet version that was similar, but also very different in their own right -- and that's exactly how The Driftwood Mittens crochet pattern came to be! It was a fun challenge designing a pair of crochet mittens that didn't look outdated or tacky, so I think I hit the mark with The Driftwood Mittens!
Crocheted seamlessly in the round top-down, The Driftwood Mittens are easily made in no time at all. The front of the mittens feature three mock-cables in two different sizes (one larger center cable flanked by two smaller cables), and the rest of the mittens are crocheted in classic stitches. The cuff appears to be knitted, but it's actually crocheted, and the stretchy rib of it completed the whole look. And the best part? This crochet pattern comes with an extensive photo tutorial to help guide you through every little bit of the crochet pattern. It even includes links to helpful video tutorials as well. These mittens are an instant classic with the pretty cables down the front and the classic crochet stitches for the rest of the mittens, making The Driftwood Mittens the loveliest crochet pattern to grab this season.
The Details of The Driftwood Mittens Crochet Pattern: Classic Cables With A Fold-Over Cuff
I designed The Driftwood Mittens crochet pattern so that these mittens can be crocheted seamlessly in the round (because who wants an unsightly seam in a mitten, ever?!) with a fold-up cuff that looks knitted. I'm a little partial knitwear and knitted designs because I think they look so timeless and classy, so it was a little bit of a challenge for me to design crocheted mittens that still looked very stylish and something that I would personally wear. I absolutely love the look of adding a cuff to crocheted mittens that appear to be knitted, but is actually crocheted. The crochet technique I incorporated to making these ribbed cuffs is a technique I actually used when designing The Halston Scarf -- it looks knitted but is actually crocheted. I designed the front body of the mittens to have three cables: one larger cable flanked by two smaller cables, that to me, slightly resemble The Grove Mittens knitting pattern, which is exactly what I was going for. The cables are easily made (with tons of photos and a video tutorial to boot) and are actually really fun to make. The body of the mittens whip up in no time at all, and then you'll crochet the cuff, and then you'll swing back around and crochet the thumbs in just a few quick minutes. All in all, The Driftwood Mittens crochet pattern is super fun and easy, and the finished mittens make for the cutest stocking stuffers of gifts during the holidays.
Let's break it down -- what's in the crochet pattern? A stitch glossary, links to helpful videos and photos, an extensive photo tutorial within the pattern, written text to explain everything, a schematic with precise measurements, and all the other attributes any great and easy-to-understand crochet pattern ought to have! Currently, this crochet pattern is designed to fit most adult women hand sizes.
Can I Crochet The Driftwood Mittens? What's The Skill Level Of This Crochet Pattern?
The crochet pattern for The Driftwood Mittens is best suited for intermediate crocheters. The crochet pattern file equips you with a stitch glossary, links to helpful video tutorials, and an extensive photo tutorial to help you through all the steps of this crochet pattern, but I still categorize this crochet pattern to be best suited for intermediate crocheters due to the nature of the construction of the mittens (i.e., crocheted in the round and the cable details involved). Although it is super easy to make these "mock cables" once you get the hang of it, if you've never crocheted cables before, you might find it a tiny bit tricky at first.
Therefore, due to the nature of a few of the techniques involved in The Driftwood Mittens crochet pattern, I think its best suited for intermediate crocheters. But if you're an "advanced-beginner" crocheter, you can still tackle this crochet pattern with a little patience and persistence, and the photos and videos definitely help with that! If, however, you're comfortable crocheting in the round and are familiar with basic crochet techniques as well as cables, then The Driftwood Mittens crochet pattern will be an absolute breeze for you.
