The Design Concept Of The Cypress Beanie Knitting Pattern: A Classic Argyle Fair Isle Beanie That's Unisex
Believe it or not, I actually designed The Cypress Beanie knitting pattern many years ago, and retired it a few years back with intentions on revamping it one day in the future. But for a long time, it patiently waited in the back of the closet for the day it would make its reappearance...and today's the day! I've always loved the look of classic, timeless knitwear pieces and have always had an affinity for vintage/retro items that were somehow re-designed to have a modern twist to it. One clear example of this is my take on the granny square blanket when I designed The Honeymilk Throw. So for me, a classic argyle beanie is reminiscent of a retro, throwback knit style that I was eager to transform and make a bit more modern.
This idea actually sprung from me knitting this beanie in a woman's head size, and my husband liked the design so much, he asked for one in his size as well. Knitted seamlessly in the round on circular knitting needles bottom-up, the highly detailed knitting pattern equips you with written instructions, a color-coded stitch chart, a stitch glossary, some helpful photos for reference, links to video tutorials and other helpful content, a schematic with precise measurements, and more. If you've been looking to knit a classic beanie this season, then The Cypress Beanie knitting pattern is definitely for you!
Alternatively, you can grab this pattern on Etsy, Ravelry, or LoveKnitting.
The Details Of The Cypress Beanie Knitting Pattern: A Fair Isle Design That's Fun To Knit
The Cypress Beanie knitting pattern is suitable for intermediate knitters looking to create a classic beanie that's super fun to knit. Knitted seamlessly in the round bottom-up, this pattern requires fair-isle or stranded-knitting techniques in two different colors. If you're relatively knew to fair-isle knitting, it's super easy to learn, but you need to be conscious that your "floats" (the yarn being carried in the back of your work) aren't being pulled too tightly. This can sometimes be a rookie mistake, which is why I categorized this knitting pattern for intermediate knitters.
You'll first start off knitting the cozy fold-over brim, that was specifically designed to add an extra layer of warmth to your ears. Living in Colorado and spending most weekends hiking The Rocky Mountains, I'm always looking to create knitwear that's stylish and functional. So for me, a fold-up brim is always a good choice. I have had a lot of customers tell me that they loved the folded-up brim for The Lakewood Beanie I designed, so I decided to also incorporate it into The Cypress Beanie knitting pattern as well!

Can I Knit The Cypress Beanie? The Skill Level Of The Knitting Pattern
I designed The Cypress Beanie knitting pattern to be suitable for intermediate knitters. Due to the stranded-knitting/fair-isle knitting techniques involved in this pattern, I felt it would be best suited for this skill level. However, if you're relatively new to fair-isle knitting, you can still tackle this pattern with a little patience and persistence. Fair-isle knitting essentially just involved alternating yarn colors when knitting each row. For The Cypress Beanie knitting pattern, you will be knitting with two different colors, and for the body of the beanie, you will switch back and forth between these colors, as indicated by the knitting pattern.
This knitting pattern equips you with detailed written text, and also comes with a color-corded stitch chart, so it makes reading this pattern very helpful. Also included in the pattern is a stitch glossary, links to helpful video tutorials and content, a schematic and more.
