Design Concept For The Posy Sweater Knitting Pattern
When first designing The Posy Sweater knitting pattern, my goal was to juxtapose a strong, chic, fashion knit sweater with an ultra-feminine touch of ribbon. I've always loved combining higher-fashion style with subtle feminine details, and The Posy Sweater definitely checks all those boxes. So I purposefully knit The Posy Sweater in a darker more "edgy-er" color palette with a relaxed, slightly oversized silhouette to make the ultra girly pop of a bow stand out even more. The finished result is a classic knit sweater that features a double-thick neck band, a v-shaped keyhole in the back, starkly-contrasting ribbing details on the cuff, bottom, and neck, and, of course, a lovely little ribbon bow that totally steals the show!
The Ribbon Detail + More Details Of The Posy Sweater Knitting Pattern
The Posy Sweater is knitted seamlessly top-down on circular knitting needles, first starting with the collar/neck, then moving onto a little neck shaping, then the yoke, then dividing the sleeves, and knitting the rest of the body, and coming back to knit the sleeves at the end. This knitting pattern is suitable for "advanced beginner" knitters and beyond, and is a really simple knit, especially if you've knitted top-down garments before. There's absolutely no neck-shaping required for this pattern, which also makes it super easy! Never knit a sweater before? You can definitely conquer The Posy Sweater knitting pattern with ease. All the stitches are simple, and you'll easily get into the meditative flow of knitting stockinette stitch for the majority of this pattern.
The little keyhole detailing in the back has a selvage that allows it to lay flat and not curl under (like general stockinette stitches tend to do). I found that paying attention to little details like this make a huge difference to the overall design, and I'm pleased that I chose to go with the selvage! The double-thick collar allows you to thread whatever type of ribbon you'd like for your sweater, and it's super easy to do.
