The Design Concept Of The Moonlit Shawl Knitting Pattern: A classic Half-Circle Shawl With Lace Details
When designing The Moonlit Shawl knitting pattern, I had in mind to create a pretty half-circle shawl that was filled with beautiful classic knit stitches, and then gradually flowed into a crescendo of large spikes at the edge. I also wanted to incorporate classic Estonian lace and nupps to make the edge even more dramatic. I don't usually knit with black yarn, so I wanted to challenge myself to knit a darker, more dramatic-toned shawl using a variegated black yarn, but still let it have a very beautiful and elegant look and feel to it.
I specifically designed The Moonlit Shawl to be suitable for advanced-beginner knitters, and it incorporates only the simplest of knit stitches for the body of the shawl. Knitted top-down on circular knitting needles (without joining in the round), the body of the shawl is extremely relaxing and meditative to knit. For the edge of The Moonlit Shawl, I designed it to have dramatic spikes/points, and to have some simple lacework involved. I also added nupps (which is an easy Estonian bobble stitch) to the edge for an even more unique effect. Within the pattern, I've provided links to numerous video and photo content for help.
What's The Difficult Level of The Moonlit Shawl Knitting Pattern? Can I Knit It?
I designed The Moonlit Shawl knitting pattern to be suitable for advanced-beginner knitters. The body of the shawl is super easy to knit, with only the simplest knit stitches and increases to grow the shawl larger and larger. Knitting the body of The Moonlit Shawl is so relaxing and meditative, and it is the perfect project to take on-the-go or to work on while binging on Netflix (ha!). Knitted top-down, when the shawl reaches the length required by the pattern, then you will work the edge of the shawl. The edging is very simple to knit as well, and incorporates only the simplest lacework stitches (i.e., simple increases and decreases), and then you will toss in a few easy nupps along the way. I provide video support for how to make nupps even faster, so they work up at lightning speed. Overall, this knitting pattern is very relaxing to knit and the edge provides some knitting interest to keep you engaged.
