Delicately encrusted with gorgeous textural stitches and subtle eyelet details, The Countryside Sweater is a must-knit. Knitted in worsted-weight and featuring a relaxed fit, other special details include a cozy double-knit neck with a garter ridge faux-seam, seamless raglan construction, subtle-yet-striking pops of lacy stitches broken up with twisted stitches, and tapered sleeves for a natural fit -- the perfect, unique addition to your wardrobe.
Inspiration & Other Info About The Countryside Sweater Knitting Pattern
When designing The Countryside Sweater, I wanted to incorporate lots of various textures and lace elements, but still have the fabric structured, neat, and clean. I wanted the different textures and lace to 'flow' together and not look like just a mashup of randomly chosen textures. I played with various swatches for a long time to see which textures would go bet together, and I finally landed on this combination. To me, it is inspired by the ever-evolving landscape of the beautiful countryside of my state - the eyelet lace as the deciduous trees with leaves letting the light dapple through, the garter stitch ridges as hillsides and white picket fences dotting the agricultural areas, the other textures as rocky embankments beside creekbeds and ponds.
The Countryside Sweater is seamlessly knitted top-down on circular knitting needles using worsted-weight yarn, which makes it a delightfully quick project. The neck is worked first, then short rows shape the neckline so that the front of the sweater scoops down for comfortable wear. After, the yoke is grown, the sleeves are divided, then the body of the sweater is finished. Lastly, each sleeve is worked to finalize the sweater. Since it's knitted in one quick piece (yay!), there's no need for any seaming. Overall, this is a quick and easy (and really enjoyable) pattern to make a beautiful sweater to treasure forever.
